Helpful Hints

Having an appliance break down on you can be a very stressful experience. To keep you and your wallet at ease, you can follow some of these tips to keep your appliances in top-top shape. Although we aim to help you by providing you with the following information, Appliances Service Specialists does not take any liability for any maintenance or service that is performed improperly by a non-experienced service professional. If you feel you are dealing with a problem that is beyond your capabilities, you are encouraged to call and have a technician come to your home to diagnose and repair the issue for you.

Ovens
One of the most important parts of an oven is the door seal. If a door seal is falling off, torn, or deformed in any way, it can lead to a loss of heat while the oven is working. this leak can cause an oven to work harder which puts strain on parts and uses more energy. It is a good idea to periodically inspect your door seal and replace it if necessary. If you are not comfortable with performing this operation yourself, you can always call us and we will send a technician out to your home to do the job for you.

Refrigerators
An important part of all refrigerators are their coils. These coils help run the refrigerant through the appliance to keep the inside cold. Depending on the type of refrigerator, these coils can be found below, behind, or on top of the refrigerator. It is a good idea to periodically clean these coils with a vacuum, brush, or towel to remove any dust build-up which hinders the performance and efficiency of the refrigerator. If you are not comfortable with performing this job yourself, you can give us a call and we will be happy to send an experienced technician to your home.

Dryers
One of the most common complaints for dryers is that they are not drying the clothes. For a dryer to perform at its best, the ventilation system must be clean. It is important to clean the lint trap after every use. If lint builds up in the dryer vent, it does not only pose a fire hazard, but it decreases air flow out of the dryer making the dryer work much harder. To properly clean out your vents, we recommend that you call a duct cleaning company that has the specialized tools needed to thoroughly clean out your vents.
When drying shoes or other irregular objects, it is a good idea to purchase a special drying rack for your dryer that will keep these objects from tumbling arond inside the dryer, and decrease the chances of damaging the interior.

Washers
Today, washing machines contain many parts, both mechanical and electrical. In order to ensure longevity for your washer, it is important to always keep a balanced load within the tub, and to also always have all the legs securely on the floor. If a machine is unbalanced or moving on the floor, the extra motion puts strain on many mechanical parts within the machine including the belts, transmission, and motor.
To avoid a flooding disaster, it is a good idea to periodically inspect your hoses and look for cracks, leaks, or weak spots that may require new hoses. if you are planning to be away from your washer for an extended period of time such as a vacation, you may want to turn of the water supply running to the washer to avoid any surprise floods upon your return. If you are not comfortable performing any of these activities, we encourage you to give us a call and we will do our best to help you with your situation.
